All three day trips from Lublin run by coach, with no car needed. Nałęczów is the closest and fits into half a day, 1 h 15 each way; Kazimierz Dolny and Zamość both need a full day, with a ride of 1 h 20 and 1 h 30 respectively.

Nałęczów

Worth it for half a day, low commitment

Nałęczów is the closest of the three trips, 1 h 15 by coach each way, and fits into half a day. The spa town grew up in 1878 around mineral springs discovered in 1817, taking its name from the Małachowski-Nałęcz family. The writer Bolesław Prus came here for 28 summers running, from 1882 until his death in 1912, and in the spa park laid out by Stanisław Małachowski a statue of him now sits on a bench. A return ticket is from €7.03.

Kazimierz Dolny

Worth it, if a full day is free

Kazimierz Dolny needs a full day; the coach ride is 1 h 20. The town on the right bank of the Vistula was a centre of the grain trade through the 16th and the first half of the 17th century, with a river port and around fifty granaries built along the water; one of the oldest surviving granaries dates from around 1591, with an ornamented gable added in the early 17th century. When the trade declined, the town stayed frozen in that form, and today it's a rare, complete piece of Renaissance townscape. A return ticket is from €9.55.
