Day trips from Turin
Three royal and religious addresses outside the centre: the Venaria Reale with its gardens, the Stupinigi hunting lodge, and the Sacra di San Michele abbey on a rock above the valley.
- Venaria Reale
- GTT bus line 11 (urban+suburban)
- Stupinigi
- GTT bus line 41 from Lingotto station
- Sacra di San Michele
- SFM3 train to Avigliana

All three trips from Turin run on public transport, with no car needed. The Venaria Reale and Stupinigi take half a day each, with Stupinigi the closer, about 20 min by bus. The Sacra di San Michele, an abbey on a rock, takes a full day, and the train-and-bus combination to it only runs on weekends and holidays, from April to October.
Half a day, by bus
GTT bus line 11 runs direct to the Venaria Reale, about 40 min, for €3.40 (on weekends there's also the tourist Venaria Express line). The royal palace and gardens belong to the same House of Savoy complex as the Musei Reali in the city centre.

A hunting lodge, the shortest hop
The Stupinigi hunting lodge (Palazzina di Caccia) is reached by GTT bus line 41 from Lingotto station, about 20 min, for €3.80. A star-shaped layout of wings around a central dome sets it apart from the Venaria and the Musei Reali.

Sacra di San Michele: a full day, weekends only
The abbey on a rock above the valley is reached by the SFM3 train to Avigliana, then a bus up the hill, about 1 h (train ~25–30 min plus the bus), for €12.60 (a combined ticket, with a 25% discount on the entry fee). This train-and-bus combination only runs on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, from April to October, so on weekdays Venaria and Stupinigi remain.

Further into northern Italy
Anyone continuing by train instead of heading back to the airport takes the main line east. The first major stop on it is Milan.
