The best time to visit San Gimignano
Two sets of opening hours a year, and one hour of the day when the square fills up.
- Monument season
- 1 Apr–31 Oct
- Off season
- 1 Nov–31 Mar
- Best time
- late spring, early autumn

San Gimignano has one seasonal split worth knowing: the Torre Grossa, the Collegiata and the Museo della Tortura keep longer hours from 1 April to 31 October and shorter ones over winter. Within the longer season it's the crowd that shifts, thickest around midday in summer.
Two opening-hours seasons a year
Off season — museums keep shorter hours, and the Museo della Tortura opens weekends only. Hours from the official pages of each sight, checked 2026-09-29; the Rocca di Montestaffoli, Sant'Agostino and Piazza della Cisterna have no set hours, always open or free to enter.

Climate by month
Temperature is the mean over the whole day (not the daily high), and a rainy day has at least 1 mm of rain; averages for 2021–2024.
Midday is the busiest
Day-trippers from Florence and Siena arrive around midday, when Piazza della Cisterna and Piazza del Duomo are fullest. Mornings before ten and late afternoons, once the last groups have left, stay the quietest.

Late spring and early autumn
late spring, early autumn. The sights keep the same hours as summer, since both spring and autumn fall inside the longer season that runs to 31 October, but fewer day-trip groups show up than in July and August.
