The best time to visit Milan
Milan sits on a plain with no sea nearby, so summer can turn heavy and humid — the best months are May, June and October, clear of the worst heat and the priciest fair weeks.
- Best
- May, June and Oct
- Hottest
- July and August, humid heat
- Coldest
- January, foggy and damp

May, June and October keep a temperature you can stand on the Duomo's shadeless roof in, and walk to the Navigli without a break. Summer in Milan isn't just hot but humid too, since the city sits on a plain with no sea to cool the air, so July and August can feel heavier than the same reading by the coast.
If you only pick one month — May. Temperature is the mean over the whole day (not the daily high), and a rainy day has at least 1 mm of rain; averages for 2021–2024.
Spring and autumn, without the humid heat
May, June and October keep a temperature you can stand on the Duomo's shadeless roof in, and walk to the Navigli without a break. Most rain tends to fall in spring, but rarely enough to disrupt a day on foot.

Fairs only move the price
A fair's date has no effect on the temperature, only on room prices and street crowds. Fashion week is 22–28 September 2026, and the Salone del Mobile 13–18 April 2027, with Design Week starting a day earlier. The weather in both weeks is usually pleasant; only the budget changes.

From December to February Milan can turn foggy and damp cold, but nothing closes for the weather — the museums, the Duomo and the restaurants run as usual. What you lose is a clear view from the Duomo's roof and long stretches sitting by the canal.
- Pack light sleeves in summer, but a scarf for the churches. The Duomo requires covered shoulders and knees whatever the heat.
- Check the fair calendar before you pick a date. Room prices can rise more than threefold in the same week.
- Expect fog on the roof in winter. The Duomo's terraces stay open, but the view can turn grey.
