Alghero suits a modest wallet, because only one of its sights makes a real dent in the budget. Neptune's Grotto is the dearest ticket in the table below at €18, and every other admission sits well under it. The cathedral, the sea walls and the beaches are free. What this page cannot give is the price of a bed or a dinner, since the sources for both disagree, so those lines are left out rather than guessed.

The cathedral, the sea walls and the beaches are free. Sunbeds, lobster by the kilo and accommodation are not in the table.

The cave ticket is only the first line of that day. From June to October the shuttle from Casa Gioiosa is charged separately, and so is the boat if you go by sea. Day three leans on a car, because the necropolis at Anghelu Ruju and the winery next to it have no public bus. La Pelosa near Stintino needs an online ticket between 15 May and 15 October, at €3.50 per person, with up to four people on one booking and under-12s free. Lobster is sold by weight, and sunbeds in summer cost extra, but neither price can be quoted here. A guided visit to Anghelu Ruju lasts about an hour, and Palmavera takes about the same, so the two ticket lines buy roughly half a day between them. The Coral Museum and the cloister are each an hour or so, which makes them an inexpensive way to fill an old-town afternoon.

Where to save

Most of the town costs nothing. The cathedral is free, the walls are free and every beach is free to enter, which leaves the cloister and the museum as the only small admissions of the old town. For the city bus, the fare is €1 (90 min, ARST). Breakfast can come from the Milese bar on Via Garibaldi. One filled flatbread there costs €3.50, the one food price the sources give. Visitors aged 6 to 17, residents of Alghero and students up to 26 with proof pay the reduced cave price of €10, and children under 6 enter free. Visitors with disabilities and one companion enter free too, as do licensed guides, and groups of 25 or more pay a reduced group rate at the cave. Transport has its own small economies. The airport bus ticket is cheaper from the machine in the terminal than from the driver, so buy it before you board. The city fare covers 90 minutes, which is enough for the ride to the Lido and the first stretch of a swim. The Beach Bus, which runs from May to September along the Capo Caccia road, sells a single ticket and a day ticket, and the day ticket is the one to take if you plan to hop between the cave and the beaches.

Frequently asked

Before you go

Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.

How much money do you need for three days in Alghero?

Add up the admissions in the table that you plan to use, then add the buses. Accommodation and meals are not in the table, because the sources do not agree on them, so no total is given.

Is Alghero expensive in August?

Accommodation and beach services generally cost more in summer, but no figure is given here because the sources do not agree. The admissions and the airport bus in the table do not depend on the season.
