The best time to visit Szeged
Szeged is a city of open air: the terraces along the Tisza and Dóm tér want the warmer months, while in winter the museums and the bath remain.

- A plan under a roof: museums

Szeged is at its best from May to September, when the riverside terraces and open-air programmes run and the summer festival runs on Dóm tér. In winter the city is quiet: the church, the synagogue, the Reök and the museum do not depend on the weather, but strolls along the bank and dinners outdoors drop out.
Month by month
If you only pick one month — September. Temperature is the mean over the whole day (not the daily high), and a rainy day has at least 1 mm of rain; averages for 2021–2024.
Summer is the open-air season
From May to September Szeged steps outside: the riverside terraces run, and in summer Dóm tér becomes the stage of the Szeged Open-Air Festival, held there since 1931. Travel then and the centre is planned for the morning and the evening, leaving midday for shade and the bath.

Winter closes the outdoors, not the city
In winter the centre stays full of things under a roof: the Votive Church, the New Synagogue, the Reök Palace and the Móra Ferenc Museum do not depend on the weather, and the thermal bath is then the best reason to come. What drops out are the terraces and the walks along the Tisza.

The day of the week counts for more than the month
Monday is a problem for the centre in every month: the Reök Palace and the New Synagogue are closed, and the synagogue opens only Tuesday to Thursday and on Sunday. Hitting Tuesday to Thursday in a poor month beats a Monday in a good one.
