Szeged in 2 days
Day one keeps the centre in a single walking circle, day two goes to the zoo and the thermal bath; the day is picked by what is closed when.

The plan is laid out by weekday. The Reök Palace is closed on Monday, and the New Synagogue is open only Tuesday to Thursday and on Sunday, so the centre is done on those days. Day one is the whole centre in one circle, day two is for the zoo and the water.

The square, the synagogue, the Reök and Dóm tér
Széchenyi Square, the main city square, free. The day starts here, because everything else is in the same circle.
The New Synagogue, by Lipót Baumhorn, 1903. Entry €6.90, hours Tue–Thu and Sun 9–16.
The Reök Palace on Klauzál tér, an Art Nouveau palace from 1907. Exhibition €5.52, hours Tue–Sun 10–18.
Lunch: a set menu at a halászcsárda, a fish tavern, costs €7.73–8.25, and Szeged halászlé is an extra +€3.31 on set menu.
The Votive Church on Dóm tér, vowed after the flood of 1879. The church is free, the tower or dome is €4.14 (tower); hours Mon–Sat 7–19, Sun 8–19.
The Dömötör Tower, same square, a viewpoint at €4.14; it comes in a package with the church tower.
The Tisza and dinner on the embankment.

The zoo and the thermal bath do not fit this day. The centre is walked and finished; both of these want another part of the day and another pace.
The zoo and the thermal bath
Szeged Zoo, an adult ticket at €17.38. This is the most expensive entry in the plan; on a rainy day the Móra Ferenc Museum goes in its place, hours Mon–Fri 10–18, Sat 10–20, Sun 10–18.
Anna Thermal Bath, a full-day thermal ticket on weekdays at €6.90.

With only one day, day two drops out: the centre stays, since the zoo and the bath can wait for another visit.

Before you go
Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.
Which day of the week is best for Szeged?
Tuesday to Thursday: the Reök Palace and the New Synagogue are both open. Sunday is the second option; on Monday the Reök is closed, and the synagogue opens only Tuesday to Thursday and on Sunday.
Can the zoo and the thermal bath be done on the same day as the centre?
Not at a decent pace. The centre takes a whole day, the zoo and the bath a part of a day each; with one day, pick the centre.
Does the New Synagogue need booking?
Not for entry; only the guided visit is arranged in advance.
