On Crete the date does not just change the temperature — it changes whether the gorge is even open, and for how long Knossos stays open.

May–Jun & Sep–Oct; Jul–Aug hot. These are also the months when the gorge is reliably open, and the beaches and the lagoon are already, or still, warm, without the July–August crowds at the Elafonisi and Balos car parks.

What runs all year on Crete

The Venetian harbour, the old town in Chania, Elafonisi and Balos have no season — they are reachable every day of the year. For them, only the car-park crowds and the sea temperature change, not whether you can reach them at all.
