Getting around Larnaca
The airport is close, there is one city bus, and a car is for day trips, with traffic on the left

- Motion card
- €2.00

You do not need a car to move around Larnaca, and the airport is the reason. It lies roughly 4 km south-west of the centre, one city bus connects it with the seafront, and the town is small enough to cross on foot. A rental car earns its keep only on day trips, and then traffic keeps to the left.
From the airport to the centre
The airport stands in the village of Dromolaksija and handled almost 10 million passengers in 2025, which makes it a busy airport for a small island. Bus 425 of Cyprus Public Transport links the airport with Finikoudes, the seafront stop in the centre, at the city fare of €2.70. Buses run every 20 to 60 minutes according to guides, so leave yourself a margin after a late landing. The notices of the company mention that the Finikoudes stop is skipped when the promenade is closed for an event.
Taxis are the alternative, and Bolt works while Uber does not. A taxi costs 15% more between 20.30 and 06.00. Shuttle buses also leave the airport for Limassol, Nicosia, Protaras, Paralimni and Ayia Napa, which helps if your bed is outside Larnaca.
3-star hotel, double room, per person per night
Around town
Walk. The promenade is 600 m long, the fort stands at its end, and a path of about 4 km runs around the lake for those who prefer a path to a road. Cash fares on the bus follow the tariff that Cyprus Public Transport introduced on 3 August 2026, and the Motion card, which is issued against a payment, brings the daytime ride down to €2.00. Rides after 21.00 cost the night fare, so plan the last bus of the evening with that in mind, and the walk home from the promenade becomes the cheaper option.
By car, on the left
Traffic keeps to the left, the limit is 50 km/h in towns, 80 outside them and 100 on the motorway, and in pedestrian zones it is 30. The motorways carry no tolls, and no vignette is needed. Slow down in pedestrian zones, where the limit is 30 km/h, and keep to the left even on empty side streets. Before you rent, ask the company what its insurance covers.
The line to the north
A line separates the south from the north, and you can cross it at nine checkpoints. Police inspect identity there. The two Ledra crossings in Nicosia take pedestrians only, and goods bought in the north face limits. Days spent in the north count towards your 90 days without a visa, and anyone who rents a car should ask the company whether it may cross.
