The best time to visit Rovinj
Rovinj sits on the northern Adriatic, where the sea only softens summer so much — May, June and September carry the best temperatures, and July averages warmer here than August.

- January, average of daily means 7.1°C

Two things pick the month for Rovinj: how hot the shadeless stone lanes get, and whether the routes to the archipelago and inland Istria run on a summer or a reduced timetable. May, Jun, Sep deliver both — temperatures without the extremes and a full schedule. The gap between July and January, in degrees and rainy days, is in the table below, alongside the months when the boat to St Catherine and Red Island sails least often.
Month by month
Average of daily means and rainy days per month, 2021–2024 (Open-Meteo) — not individual records.
Summer is warm, and July can outdo August
The July average is 26.4°C, August 25.9°C, but both months carry individual days over 30°C on the shadeless stone lanes. Travel then and the old town works for morning and evening, with Zlatni Rt and the sea for the afternoon.

Winter closes part of town
The House of Batana is weekends in winter (Jan, Feb, Dec), and its hours outside the main season are shorter (seasonal; e.g. Jun–Aug 10–13 and 19–23, Mar–Apr 10–16) — travelling outside summer, it's worth checking whether it's even open that day.
Rain changes trips out of town
May carries the most rainy days of the months that are also warmest for boat trips; the panoramic run to Limski Bay only operates in the warmer half of the year, on its own schedule. December is just as wet, but by then most boat lines aren't running anyway.
