The best time to visit Uvac
The same canyon changes face twelve times a year — the vultures are busiest in summer, the colour comes in autumn, and the boat trip depends on the weather, not the calendar.
- Best
- June–September (vultures)
- Hottest
- August, average daily mean 19.6°C
- Coldest
- January, average daily mean −1.4°C

Two things pick the month for Uvac: how active the griffon vultures are above the canyon, and whether the weather allows a boat trip. June–September (vultures); autumn colour, but May and June bring the most rain of the year — and the boat is cancelled for rain, hail, snow, strong wind or a storm, whatever the month.

The vultures pick summer
Griffon vultures are most active above the canyon June–September (vultures); autumn colour, which is also when the boat trip is most reliable. May and June, though, carry the most rain of the year — seventeen days in May, fifteen in June — so the forecast that morning matters more than the calendar.

The boat depends on the weather, not the season
The reserve is open year-round, weather-dependent. The boat trip itself, to the Ice Cave and the viewpoint from the water, is cancelled for rain, hail, snow, strong wind or a storm, by the reserve's official price list — the rule holds in July the same as in January.
June–September brings the vultures, but the heaviest rain comes earlier, in May and June; autumn brings the colour, smaller crowds and less rain in its second half.
