Two days cover the main part of Tara National Park without rushing: the first keeps the viewpoint and the forest on the northern side, the second the lake and a boat ride down the Drina canyon. The Šargan Eight and Drvengrad stay for a separate day — they're in Mokra Gora, a nature park of its own on the mountain's southern slope.
Banjska Stena and the forest
Drive from the base to Mitrovac, then a gravel road to the car park at Banjska Stena — free; parking is charged, none (booking: no).
A short flat forest path to the viewpoint at 1,065 metres — fine with children; without a car, the same stretch from Mitrovac is walked.
A walk through mixed forest towards Zaovine, home to the Serbian spruce — the walking trails are free, only vehicle entry at the park gate is charged.
A free afternoon at the base; day two starts earlier for the drive to Perućac.
There's no public transport between the viewpoints in the park — without your own car or an organised trip, the plan shrinks to one part of the park.

Perućac, the lake and the boat
Drive to Perućac; the lake formed by damming the Drina in 1966 is free for swimming and walking the shore.
A boat through the canyon to the bridge in Višegrad, in Bosnia and Herzegovina — lake free; boat €34.07; ID goes in a daypack, not a bag left in the car.
Boat back, then a free afternoon by the lake.
The boat to Višegrad crosses into Bosnia and Herzegovina — boarding doesn't happen without an ID card or passport.

A third day, if there's time
The park has around ten marked viewpoints besides Banjska Stena — a third day covers another one, or a longer hike towards Zaovine, without the drive to Perućac or back to base.
Before you go
Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.
How many days does Tara need?
Two days cover Banjska Stena, the forest and the lake with the boat; a third adds another viewpoint or a longer hike.
Do the Šargan Eight and Drvengrad fit into this plan?
No — they're in Mokra Gora, a separate park on the mountain's southern slope, best planned as a day of their own.
Is a car needed for these two days?
Yes. There's no public transport between the viewpoints and the lake, and Banjska Stena is reached by car or on foot from Mitrovac.
