The Iron Gates in 2 days
The first day drives down the Danube from Golubac to Lepenski Vir and a night in Donji Milanovac, the second keeps the Kazan cruise for the morning and returns to Belgrade via Golubac.
- How long
- 1–2
- Without a car
- coach (Litas) to Donji Milanovac
- Car rental
- €12–13 per day, from Belgrade

1–2 days is the general range for Đerdap, and this plan picks two: Donji Milanovac is the base the hub itself suggests for a two-night stay, and the Kazan cruise only sails once a slot is arranged by phone — one day with no room for a shifted call would mean either the fortress without the cruise, or the cruise without the fortress.
Golubac, Lepenski Vir, arrival in Donji Milanovac
Leave Belgrade by car for Golubac — €12–13 per day for the rental, about two hours along the Danube.
Golubac fortress, ten towers on a cliff above the river: entry €8.09–21.30 (by zone), opening hours 10–18 in summer, 10–14 in winter (changes monthly) (closed: Monday); booking: no (groups: notice).
Drive downstream to Lepenski Vir, some forty kilometres on: a settlement about eight thousand years old, whose house floors were moved thirty metres uphill in 1971 when the dam raised the Danube; the visit runs under a museum roof built in 2011.
The last seventeen kilometres into Donji Milanovac, checking into the hotel: €45 per person for a twin room with breakfast.
Dinner in town and a free evening by the Danube — day two starts early, on the riverfront.
The trimaran only sails once at least six passengers sign up, twelve at most; the slot is arranged by phone, not bought online — call on the evening of day one, not the morning of day two.

The Kazan cruise, back via Golubac
The Kazan cruise by trimaran: €17.04, 90 min through the Great and Small Kazan, the Danube's narrowest stretch; booking: timed slot.
Trajan's Plaque, a Roman inscription cut into the rock above the river, seen from the boat or the shore: free, booking: no.
Free time in Donji Milanovac before heading back — a walk along the riverfront is free.
Drive back towards Golubac (Golubac–Lepenski Vir ~40 km · Lepenski Vir–Donji Milanovac 17 km · Golubac–Donji Milanovac 56.5 km), with lunch in town: a main course €5.11–8.18.
Back to Belgrade, about two hours again on the same road.
What spoils the plan
- Monday. Golubac fortress is shut that day (Monday) — the day-one plan doesn't work then.
- Leaving the cruise call for the morning. Without a slot arranged the evening before, the trimaran may not sail if six passengers haven't signed up.
- No car. No public transport reaches Golubac or Lepenski Vir — arriving by coach straight into Donji Milanovac (coach (Litas) to Donji Milanovac, about 3 h 45 for €18.99) leaves only the cruise and Trajan's Plaque.
