The Aerobus 199 runs from the city's own airport to Porta Nuova station, €7 for 15 min. The rest of the day goes on tickets for the sights nobody skips, the Arena and Castelvecchio, while Piazza delle Erbe and the view from the bridge cost nothing.

The biggest item is tickets, since the centre is done on foot and transport comes down to the ride from the station. Each of the five stops in the one-day plan, the Arena, Torre dei Lamberti, Juliet's House, Castelvecchio and San Zeno, is a separate ticket, and on festival performance days the Arena is on a different rate. Meals come second. What each dish costs is on the food page.

Where it's easiest to save

Piazza delle Erbe, crossing Ponte Pietra and the view from outside the Arena are all free. Anyone who skips the climb up Torre dei Lamberti on day one gets a view over the centre from Castel San Pietro on day two: the viewpoint is free, only the funicular is charged, €2 (return €3.20), and the steps are an option. A day pass (€5) rarely pays off in a city you walk anyway. A single ticket (€1.50) covers the occasional bus ride.

Frequently asked

Before you go

Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.

What pushes up the cost of a day in Verona most?

Tickets. The five stops in the one-day plan are five separate tickets, and the Arena is on a different rate on performance days.

Is a day transport pass worth it?

Rarely — the centre is walkable, so a day pass only makes sense with repeated rides to the station.

Do I need to change between the airport and the centre?

No, the Aerobus 199 runs direct to Porta Nuova station, and the centre is twenty-odd minutes on foot from there.
