Getting around Trieste
From the airport to the square in one step: bus 51 runs direct into the centre, and everything from there is within walking distance.
- Getting in
- Trieste Airport (TRS
- From the airport
- line 51 bus (APT/TPL FVG)
- One ride
- €1.50

Trieste has its own airport, Ronchi dei Legionari (TRS), so there's no changing through another city. From the airport line 51 bus (APT/TPL FVG), direct to the centre runs 45–50 min to the centre, for €4.50. From there the old centre is close, and inside it everything is on foot.
Bus 51 into the centre
There is no change: line 51 runs straight into the centre. The ticket is paid on the bus or through an app, €4.50, which is also the cheapest public connection from the airport.

A single ticket or a day ticket
A single ride on city transport (TPL FVG) runs €1.50. A 24-hour ticket, valid on the whole urban network, runs €3.35 and pays off from the third ride the same day.
3. In the centre: all on foot
From the square by the sea to the castle on the hill, the whole walk runs without a single ride — the climb to Castello di San Giusto is the only real uphill stretch on the one-day plan.

4. A second day: buses further out
For trips outside the centre — Miramare, Muggia and the Grotta Gigante — it's a city bus, and a FlixBus for Ljubljana.
