A day in Salzburg runs from €34–56 per person, with a hostel bed, street food and a set lunch, up to €98–117 with a three-star hotel and two restaurant meals. Accommodation moves the total the most; the fortress and the salt mine are separate lines, outside this daily sum.

The same basket used for every city on the site, so days compare. Not included: breakfast, drinks and sightseeing tickets.

From the airport
Salzburg is entered through Salzburg airport (SZG), from where bus 2 (or 10) to the centre runs to the centre — about 20–23 min, for €2.50. It is also the cheapest way into the city; ticket details are on the getting-around page.

Sightseeing tickets
The Getreidegasse, the Mirabell gardens and the cathedral are free. The Hohensalzburg fortress charges by ticket type — from €9.80 for the Panorama ticket on foot to €15.50 for the Basic ticket by funicular — and the Hallein salt mine is €35. The order to see them in over a day is on the day-by-day plan.

What moves the price
Food and transport prices stay the same all year; what changes is the room price. The Salzburg Festival, in the middle of summer, raises rooms across the whole city, and Advent in December is just as much a high season.

What this sum leaves out
- The Salzkammergut, Hallstatt or Berchtesgaden. Getting to any of them costs extra, on top of the daily budget in the city.
- Breakfast and drinks with the meal are left out of the basket that compares the hostel, street food and the fortress against other cities on the site.
- Museum der Moderne on the Mönchsberg. €15, off the main list of sights.
