The best months for Košice are May–June and September. The city sits deep inside eastern Slovakia, with no sea to soften the temperatures, so July and August are hot and humid, and winter is cold. In spring and autumn the whole loop around Hlavná Street can be walked without a break for shade.
Month by month
If you only pick one month — September. Temperature is the mean over the whole day (not the daily high), and a rainy day has at least 1 mm of rain; averages for 2021–2024.
The months in the table above show when the loop around Hlavná Street is most pleasant for walking, without a heavy coat or the heat. May and June hold the same temperatures as September, but with more visitors and more humidity in the air; September is the quieter choice with the same numbers.

Hot and humid
July and August in eastern Slovakia bring both heat and humidity, harder on a full day of walking than the drier summer in the west of the country. The core is paved in stone with little shade, so the cathedral and the museums are best for the middle of the day, and the City Park for the end of the afternoon.

Cold, but open
From December to February the city is cold, but nothing in the core shuts its doors for the season. The cathedral, the tower and Kulturpark run on their usual schedule, and the gold treasure stays closed Monday as it does all year, not extra in winter. All you lose is lingering outdoors, on a bench in the City Park.
