Zlatibor likes to say that everything is close. The map disagrees. The gondola, the lake and the centre lie within easy reach of each other, but the cave and the waterfall are a drive away, and no regular line runs to either. The plan is a bus to the centre, feet and a gondola in town, and a car or an organised trip for anything beyond.

From Belgrade to Zlatibor

Belgrade (BEG airport) is the hub, but the bus leaves from the Belgrade bus station, not the airport. There are 15 departures a day on the bus from Belgrade bus station, with one stop of 15 minutes on the road. Journey time: about 4 h.

A single ticket costs €14.90, and a round trip costs €20.87–28.10. Children get up to 50 % off and students up to 20 %. Eight buses a day leave Zlatibor on the same line, so the return is as easy to plan as the way in.

On foot, by bike, by gondola

The gondola starts in the centre, calls at Ribničko jezero and ends on Tornik, 9 km and about 25 minutes in all. The lake stop has a bar and a playground, and the top has a viewpoint, a bar and a shop. Tickets are sold return only, and children from 6 to 12 pay half, while younger ones ride free with an adult. Gondola price: €17. Booking: no, on-site or online. Closed day: none (periodic technical inspection).

Bikes are hired in several places in the centre, for half an hour or a whole day, and a mountain bike suits the ground best. Marked paths lead to Čajetina and Semegnjevo, and QR codes at the junctions give your exact position. On Tornik four trails add up to more than 30 km, and the marked route to Mokra Gora runs for over 60 km, so leave it to strong riders.

Beyond the centre

Car or organised trip

Distances from the centre: centre–Stopića cave 19 km · centre–Gostilje waterfall 25 km · gondola to Tornik 9 km. No regular line runs to the cave, the waterfall or Sirogojno, which leaves two ways. Both work. You can hire a car, which costs €14–36 per day, or join the morning trip.

The trip is organised through the tourist office by the agencies Trendy Travel and Navigator. It leaves Zlatibor in the morning and returns in the afternoon with a licensed guide, and it covers the cave, Sirogojno and the waterfall in one day. Entry tickets are extra, at €3.40 for the cave and €2.10 for the waterfall, and the trip itself costs €15.33. Without a car this is the better choice for those three, because you get a guide and no parking to look for. Mokra Gora is not on it, so that one needs wheels.
