Sokobanja in 2 days

Day one stays inside the spa itself, around the Amam and the fortress above the river; day two heads onto the mountain, to the waterfall and the peak — two different reasons to come, kept on separate days rather than crammed into one.

Where to go: five more questions →

This plan keeps the spa and the mountain apart: day one is the town itself, with the Amam in the park and Soko Grad reached on foot through the gorge; day two needs the drive to the foot of Ozren, to the waterfall and, if there's energy left, to the peak. Try to fit both into one day and either the mountain or the spa gets shortchanged.

Day 1

The spa and the fortress above the river

09:00

First, the Amam, in the town park — the plan allows about an hour for a bath or a treatment before moving on; check the slot and price ahead with the Sokobanja Special Hospital, which runs it.

11:00

A walk through the town park, around the Amam, then on towards the edge of town near the gorge.

12:30

Lunch in the centre.

14:00

The path through the Lepterija gorge follows the Moravica river past Hajduk Veljko's cave — about an hour's walk at an easy pace to Soko Grad. Entry free; bring water, there's no kiosk on the trail.

16:30

Back along the same path into the centre, the evening free.

Day 2

The waterfall and the mountain

09:00

A drive or taxi to the hospital on Ozren; the last two kilometres are gravel down to a car park, where the car stays.

10:00

From there it's a ten-minute walk to Ripaljka. The waterfall's height shifts with the water, and it runs strongest right now, while the snow melts. Entry free.

12:00

A climb or a further drive towards the summit of Ozren, Leskovik, at 1,178 metres. Access free.

14:30

Back to Sokobanja, the afternoon free for the spa.

If there's more time

  • Sesalačka Cave — near the village of Sesalac, with lit underground passages, some seventeen kilometres from the spa. Entry free.
  • Rtanj — the pyramid-shaped peak visible from the Ozren road, close enough for a third day; its own page on this site lays out the whole climb hour by hour.

Frequently asked

Before you go

Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.

Can the Amam and Soko Grad be done in one day?

Yes — both are in the town itself or right by it, reachable on foot from the centre.

Do you need a car for day two?

In practice, yes. The road towards Ozren and Ripaljka runs past the hospital and then two kilometres of gravel; city transport none, all on foot.

Does Ripaljka have water year-round?

Not reliably. It carries the most water in spring, while the snow melts; at other times the waterfall can run weaker.
