Getting around Maastricht
By train to the station, on foot from there, and by car to the P+R at Noord with a bus into town.
- From Amsterdam
- NS Intercity, about 2 h 20 at best
- From the airport
- Arriva line 30 to the station
- P+R Noord
- free parking, bus 10 €2.55

Maastricht is crossed on foot, so transport matters only at the door, and the train is the main door while the airport is a side entrance. Everything below follows that order: how you arrive, how you reach the centre from the platform, and what to use once you are inside. The car comes last, with good reason.
Train, airport and bus
NS Intercity trains run from Amsterdam through Utrecht and Eindhoven, and Maastricht is the southern end of the line. The fastest services from Amsterdam Centraal take about 2 h 20, with around 35 direct trains a day, while Eindhoven is about an hour away with 37. Roermond has direct trains too.
Maastricht Aachen Airport lies 9 km from the centre in a straight line. Arriva line 30 stops in front of the terminal and runs through Maastricht station, which makes it the whole plan, and the taxi rank stands in front of car park P1.
Check the same room on both sites: price and cancellation terms can differ.
From the station to the centre
The station stands on Stationsplein, and the centre lies straight ahead on foot. The Vrijthof is 1.2 km away in a straight line, across the Meuse by the Sint-Servaas bridge. Two other stations exist, Randwyck by UMC+ and Noord by the P+R, and neither is meant for the old town.
On foot, by bike, by bus
Public transport takes an OV-chipkaart or OVpay by card or phone, and you tap in and tap out on every ride. Without either, the driver sells a ticket for card payment only. When you change operator, tap out with the first and tap in with the second. Bikes can be left at the station, on Kesselskade and on the Markt, free for the first 24 hours, and Cycle Center is one of the places that rent them. Arriva runs shared bikes through an app, and OV-fiets works with an OV-chipkaart.
P+R Noord
Driving into the centre is the weaker plan. P+R Noord has free parking about two minutes from the A2 (exit 52) and the A79 (exit 1), and bus 10 takes you into town every 15 minutes for €2.55 per person. Bus 30 runs to the main station every half hour, and trains reach it twice an hour, with shared bikes waiting on site.
Q-Park Frontenpark and Fort Willem are garages nearer the centre. Roadworks to widen the A2 have run since 19 August 2025 and last to the end of the decade, so allow for them on the approach by car.
Liège and Aachen
Since the summer of 2024 the Drielandentrein, Arriva line RE 18, has linked Aachen, Heerlen, Maastricht and Liège. Aachen is under an hour away, with a train about once an hour, and Arriva bus 350 goes there too. Liège is 34 minutes away on the NMBS trains through Visé. The Euregioticket costs €23.50 a day, and at weekends and on public holidays it covers up to two adults and three children aged 4 to 11.
