Where to stay in Positano

In Positano accommodation is chosen by height up the slope — a room near the pier is pricier and closer to the sea, a room up the slope is cheaper, with more stairs.

Where to go: five more questions →

In Positano accommodation is chosen by height up the slope, since there are no quarters: a room near the pier costs more and shortens every walk back, one further up is cheaper and comes with its own stairs — here's the difference by address and the price on both sides.

Near the pier, pricey and close to everything

Rooms closest to the beach and the pier are also the priciest in Positano, since they're reached with the fewest steps. This is where Hotel Pupetto sits, right by Fornillo beach, €110–165 per person for a double room. The upside is closeness: the beach, restaurants and pier are all a few minutes' walk. The downside is summer, when the street below the window doesn't quiet down until late.

Further from the pier and higher up the slope, the price drops, but every trip out adds extra steps. Hostel Brikette, the only hostel in town, runs €54–80, the only budget option in town.

For one night or for two

For a single night it pays to spend more and stay near the pier: the shorter walk with luggage offsets the price difference when you only pay it once. For two nights, once the bag is packed just the once but the walk down to somewhere like Hostel Brikette or a similar address up the slope happens every day, the price gap starts to make sense.

A car doesn't help

No address in Positano, not even by Hotel Pupetto or Hostel Brikette, justifies a car: the streets are too narrow, parking is scarce and expensive, and the centre is effectively closed to traffic. The door is reached on foot or, with heavier luggage, by a porter arranged through the accommodation.

Where is cheaper to sleep in Positano?

Up the slope, away from the pier; Hostel Brikette is the only cheap option, €54–80.
