The best time for Parma is late spring, early autumn. The town sits in the Po Valley, far from the sea, so summer gets no relief from the humidity. If you can only pick one month, make it June or September, because May has the most rainy days.
Month by month
If you only pick one month — September. Temperature is the mean over the whole day (not the daily high), and a rainy day has at least 1 mm of rain; averages for 2021–2024.
The reason is in the table: May counts as late spring but has 14 rainy days, the most of the year, while June and September have 7 each. The walk from the Duomo to the Pilotta and into the park is easiest in those two months.
Humidity and long days in the park
When it is hot the day splits in two: cathedral and museums in the morning, then shade and a meal when the heat bites. The Parco Ducale is open April–October 6.00–24.00; November–March 7.00–20.00, so the walk from the itinerary moves to the end of the day.

Fog and shorter days
In winter fog hangs over the plain and the days are short, so the indoor sights carry the plan: Correggio's room in the Camera di San Paolo and the Teatro Farnese in the Pilotta. The park is seen before noon, while there is light.

- Start early in summer. The cathedral is open Cathedral 7.45–19.20; Baptistry and museum daily 10–18, the Pilotta Tuesday–Sunday 9–19 (last entry 18.00).
- Expect an early dusk in winter. The Pilotta has a last entry before closing, so the Teatro Farnese cannot wait for the end of the day.
