You reach the centre of Palermo by the Trinacria Express train from Falcone-Borsellino airport, and go on by AMAT bus and on foot. The train to Palermo Centrale takes about 1 h and costs €5.80, and it is also the cheapest public transport from the airport.
From the airport to the station
A train leaves from the airport: Trinacria Express train (regional metro, Trenitalia) to Palermo Centrale station. The ride takes about 1 h, and the ticket is €5.80. A bus run by Prestia e Comandè is the other option, and the train is cheaper than the bus.

The AMAT city buses
One ticket is valid for 90 minutes and costs €1.40 (90 min, AMAT), and a day ticket €3.50. Whether the day ticket pays off is counted in rides: it is worth it only when you ride several times in a day.

On foot in the centre
The historic centre is walked, along the two main axes that cross at the Quattro Canti: Via Maqueda and Corso Vittorio Emanuele. The four old districts meet right there, so whichever way you set off, you reach something on the map.

By bus to the day trips
For Monreale it is line 389, direct from Piazza Indipendenza: about 30–35 min, €2.80 return. For Mondello it is line 806 from Piazza Politeama: about 25–45 min (depending on traffic), €3.20 return. The time to Mondello depends on traffic. Cefalù is reached by regional train from Palermo Centrale: about 45 min.
