What Palermo costs
Three tickets and the day trips break the bill, and the squares, the market and the street save it.
- Airport to centre
- €5.80, train
- 90-minute ticket
- €1.40 (90 min, AMAT)
- Day ticket
- €3.50

Palermo is a city where the best things are cheap or free. The squares and the market charge no entry, a street meal costs €2.50–3 (pani ca meusa), and a day ticket for the city €3.50. The bill goes up on tickets and day trips, so the table below lays it out by item.
Everything per person, in euros.
Where the bill breaks
On tickets that keep a schedule. The Palatine Chapel with the Royal Apartments is €19, the Teatro Massimo €14, and the cathedral's Monumental Area is added to the nave: free (nave); €10 Monumental Area (treasury, crypt, royal tombs, roofs). If you go to all three, the tickets are the larger part of the daily bill, so they are spread over three days. The second place is the day trips: Cefalù takes a full day by train, and the return ticket is €14–17.

Where to save
On sightseeing and on food. The Quattro Canti with Piazza Pretoria and Ballarò market charge no entry. The Capuchin Catacombs are €5, and the botanical garden €5. A street meal is €2.50–3 (pani ca meusa), and a sit-down meal in a trattoria €8–12 (main course, trattoria), so a sit-down meal is kept for the day when you sit for the food. On transport the day ticket (€3.50) pays off only when you ride more than twice, and Monreale and Mondello are done by bus for €2.80 and €3.20 return.
