The best time to visit Bari
Late spring and early autumn for walking, a hot and crowded summer, and May and December each bring a feast of Saint Nicholas.

- 6 and 19 December, Catholic and Orthodox

Two calendars decide when to go to Bari: the weather and Saint Nicholas Day. The weather is best May–Jun, Sep–Oct. The city celebrates Saint Nicholas from 7 to 9 May, and 9 May marks the arrival of the relics in 1087. December has two dates: 6 December on the Catholic calendar and 19 December for Orthodox churches on the Julian one.
Climate month by month
If you only pick one month — September. Temperature is the mean over the whole day (not the daily high), and a rainy day has at least 1 mm of rain; averages for 2021–2024.
The table gives the warmth of the day, the sea and the rain by month. The old town is walked on foot and the Lungomare is a walk by the sea, so early autumn and late spring are the seasons with the least trouble.

Saint Nicholas Day, twice a year
The Basilica of Saint Nicholas is at the heart of the city from 7 to 9 May, when the arrival of the relics from Myra in 1087 is celebrated. In December the saint's day is 6 December, and the Orthodox churches that follow the Julian calendar keep it on 19 December. The basilica is a place of pilgrimage then too, with pilgrims from eastern Europe.

July and August
July and August are the hottest and the busiest. Most sightseeing then moves to the morning and the early evening, and midday is left for the gallery or the shade.
