Klagenfurt doesn't have ten districts to choose between — it splits into two: the old town, where everything is on foot and most visitors sleep, and the strip along the Wörthersee, closer to the lake and Minimundus but further from the station and the centre.
The old town — everything on foot
Neuer Platz, the Lindwurm and the arcaded courtyards sit within the same fifteen-minute walking circle, and this is where the city holds the most hostels and hotels. For a stay of one or two nights, this is the area with the least riding around.

By the Wörthersee
The strip along the lake, around the Strandbad and Minimundus, holds fewer beds than the old town and needs a bus or a bike to reach the station and the centre. It makes sense when the lake is the main reason for the trip, less so for a single night.

Before you book
- Distance to the station matters more than distance on a map. An address labelled "near the lake" can be five minutes or half an hour's walk from the nearest bus stop.
- The price is city-wide. €35–39 for a dorm bed and €42–50 for a three-star room per person are general Klagenfurt prices; the area changes the distance more than it changes the bed price.
