Day trips from Ravenna
Ravenna has no airport with regular flights, so Bologna doubles as both the arrival point and a day trip — the other three run by train or bus, from a short ride to a full day.
- Bologna
- €18, about 1 h, a full day
- Ferrara
- €14, about 1 h 15, a full day
- Cervia
- €8, about 20 min, half a day

Every trip out of Ravenna runs direct, by train or bus, so anything from half a day to a full day is planned without a change. Bologna is the one already on the route: Ravenna is reached and left through it.
Bologna — a hub that's a day trip in itself
For Ravenna, Bologna is the gateway: regional train, direct, about 1 h, €18 for a return fare. Anyone with a full day to spare can spend the last day of a stay in the city of towers and porticoes, instead of just passing through on the way to a connection.

Ferrara — a city of walls and bicycles
Ferrara is about 1 h 15 by train, €14 return, and fits into a full day. The Estense Castle and the UNESCO-listed Renaissance core are seen on foot or by bike.
Cervia — half a day at the sea
Cervia is the shortest trip, about 20 min by train and €8 return — close enough for half a day on the beach and around the salt pans before heading back to Ravenna for dinner.
Comacchio — canals and eels
The route to Comacchio is the 333 bus (TPER), about 50 min. A small canal town known for eel fishing, it fits into a full day, with time left for the nearby beaches of Lido di Comacchio.
With only half a day free the choice is easy: Cervia, since dinner is back in Ravenna after the beach. A full day opens up the other three, and the choice follows your interest: towers and porticoes in Bologna, walls and bicycles in Ferrara, canals in Comacchio. Comacchio is the only one without a train.

Before you go
Short answers to what people ask most before setting out.
Is Bologna both an arrival point and a day trip?
Yes — Ravenna's own airport has no regular service, so arrivals and departures already run through Bologna, about 1 h. Anyone with a free day can easily turn that same route into a trip.
Which trip is the shortest?
Cervia, about 20 min by train, enough for half a day at the sea before heading back.
