The best time to visit Brno
Brno sits deep in continental Moravia, so summers are warm and winters cold. May and June bring an international fireworks festival over Špilberk, September the same mild weather without the crowds.

The best months for Brno are May–June (Ignis Brunensis fireworks) and September. May and June bring the Ignis Brunensis festival, an international fireworks competition fired over Špilberk fortress, while September holds the same mild temperatures without that crowd. Winter is cold, but the city's core — the museums, the cathedral, the ossuary — runs with no seasonal closure.
Month by month
If you only pick one month — September. Temperature is the mean over the whole day (not the daily high), and a rainy day has at least 1 mm of rain; averages for 2021–2024.
The months in the table above show when the core is most pleasant for the climb from Zelný trh to Špilberk, without a heavy coat or the heat. May and June add the festival, but also more visitors around the fortress in the evening; September holds the same temperatures, quieter.

The fireworks that pick May and June
The Ignis Brunensis festival brings teams from several countries to fire fireworks over Špilberk fortress on a handful of evenings in May and June, watched from the meadows around the hill. The dates shift from year to year, so check them before the trip.

Cold, but open
From December to February Brno is cold and grey, but nothing in the core shuts its doors for the season. Villa Tugendhat still needs a slot, the ossuary and the Mendel Museum still run every day but Monday, and Špilberk just keeps shorter winter hours, museum & casemates daily 9–18 (Apr–Sep) / 10–17 (Oct–Mar). All you lose is lingering outdoors, by the fountain on Zelný trh or on a bench in Denisovy sady.
