The best time to visit Herceg Novi
Herceg Novi has no mountain that snow shuts down — the choice is between warm sea in summer and the mimosa in February, when the town is green and the beaches still empty.

- January keeps to an average of 8°C

The sea and the mimosa pick the month for Herceg Novi. The sea has to be warm enough to swim in, and the mimosa has to be flowering; Jun–Sep · Feb (mimosa) covers both, June and September for the beach, February for the festival out of season. The other months, from 8°C in winter to 27°C in summer, are in the table below.
Month by month
Average of the daily mean, 2021–2024 — not the daily maximum
The sea and summer
July and August average around 27°C. That is the average of the daily mean, while the actual daily peak runs higher; being on the water softens the heat more than it does inland. The beaches and the boats to Žanjice get busy in July and August; June and September run nearly the same temperature with a shorter queue for the boat.

February is a second season
The Mimosa Festival runs about 14 days, mid to late February, when the town is in flower and the beaches are empty because the sea is not why anyone comes. It is the only month of the year Herceg Novi gets busy without summer. Hotels in the centre fill then for the festival programme, while the sea stays empty.
Rain changes the boat trips
May is rainier than any other month, with around sixteen wet days. It rarely spoils the town, though it changes the boat trips, since the tour to the bay or the Blue Cave will not sail in a strong wind. The departure is confirmed that same morning.
