The best time to visit Lecce
Lecce is best in late spring and early autumn; summer is hot and the coast is packed.

The best time for Lecce is May–Jun, Sep–Oct. When it is hot the centre is done in the morning and toward evening, and the coast is at its densest in July and August. If you can only pick one month, take September.
Month by month
If you only pick one month — September. Temperature is the mean over the whole day (not the daily high), and a rainy day has at least 1 mm of rain; averages for 2021–2024.
The table shows where the season turns. The churches change their schedule in April, when they move to 9–21, and in October, when they go back to 9–18.
Shade and the coast
In July and August the day adapts: the churches are open April–September 9–21; October–March 9–18 so you go in when the heat bites, and street walking is left for the morning and late afternoon. The coast is crowded then, so a sunbed in the organised section is paid for: €15–35 sunbed and umbrella/day.

The shorter schedule
From October to March the churches shut at 18:00, three hours earlier than in summer. Castello Carlo V is open Tuesday–Sunday 10–20 and is shut on: Monday.

- Start early in summer. Santa Croce and the Duomo are open April–September 9–21; October–March 9–18.
- September is the easiest. The churches are still on the summer schedule, and the coast is out of the July–August crowds.
