Getting around Zadar

Zadar splits into two zones of movement: the old town, entirely on foot, and everything else, where a car or an organised trip decides.

Where to go: five more questions →

The entry point is Zadar airport (ZAD), from where Liburnija bus (airport–station–old town) into the centre takes about 20 min for €5. The old town on the peninsula is covered entirely on foot after that. A car is needed only for Paklenica, Krka or Nin, while the Kornati don't depend on a car at all, since the only way in is by boat.

From the airport to the old town

Liburnija bus (airport–station–old town) runs from the airport to the station and the old town in about 20 min, a ticket €5 per person, one way. €5 is also the cheapest way into the centre.

City transport, rarely needed in the old town

The peninsula is small and flat, so the old town is covered entirely on foot. The city bus only becomes useful for the part of town off the peninsula (Voštarnica, Borik or Diklo), priced at €1.59 per ride; an all-day ticket (none) doesn't exist, so each ride is paid for separately.

When a car is needed

For Paklenica, Krka and Nin, a car is practically the only sensible option. Public transport between them runs rarely and with changes through Zadar. For the Kornati a car doesn't help at all. The national park is reachable only by boat, on an organised trip out of the Zadar harbour.

Getting around without a car

Anyone arriving without wheels, by bus or by plane, sticks to what needs no drive. That's the old town in full, and the Kornati by organised boat. Everything else on the day-trip list stays out of reach without a rental car or a tour that includes transport.
