Amalfi off the promenade: Pogerola, Santa Croce and Pontone
A village above town where locals eat, a cove reached only by boat, and the village where the trails begin.

- Pogerola and Pontone
- Pogerola
- Six kilometres above Amalfi
- Pontone
- About 750 steps up from town

These three places lie outside the walk around town, because each is reached uphill or from the water. Pogerola is six kilometres above town, Pontone is reached by stairs, and Santa Croce only by boat or kayak.
Where the locals go for lunch
Pogerola is a hamlet six kilometres above Amalfi, on terraces looking over the coast and the Li Galli islands. People from Amalfi come here to eat out. At its centre are the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and a 12th-century chapel, and the village also has a fruit and vegetable shop and a coffee bar.
There is no entry to pay anywhere, since the whole hamlet is public space.

A cove without a path
Santa Croce is a cove that no walking path reaches. You get there only by boat or kayak, so the crowds from the promenade don't reach it. Don't look for a fixed price ahead of time: the boat fare is settled on the water, with whoever takes you.

The village where the trails start
Pontone sits high above the town. You go up the Via delle Cartiere and then a steep path of about 750 steps, or come by car. The trails to the Valle delle Ferriere and to the Torre dello Ziro start here, so the village is where a day begins.
