- The descent at the Bartolomej mine

Day one is a loop through the core itself: the square, both castles and the climb to the Calvary. Day two goes beyond the centre, to the mine and the lake, and only makes sense with the mine tour booked ahead. With only one day, do the first and you lose nothing the town keeps in its own centre.
The core: the square, both castles, the Calvary
Arrival, regional bus (IDS BBSK, line 115, SAD Zvolen) from Zvolen, about 45 min.
Holy Trinity Square, with the Baroque plague column at its centre. The starting point for everything else.
The Old Castle, once a church turned into a fortress, €8 (€4 reduced, €20 family), open Wed–Sun 9–17.
The New Castle, a watchtower on the next hill, €5 (€2 reduced, €12 family), open Tue–Sat 9–17.
Lunch in the core. A set lunch €6.40–8.90.
The Calvary, a climb past a row of chapels to the top of the hill, open summer (Jun–Sep) mostly daily; off-season mostly weekends, free entry.
Back into the core. A free afternoon, or time to get ready for tomorrow's mine.

This loop fits into a day without rushing. Day two, the mine and the lake, is the one to drop if time is short.
The Bartolomej mine and the Klinger tajch
The Bartolomej mine, an open-air museum with a descent into a real adit. Booking is recommended (mandatory for foreign-language tours, 24h ahead), the tour takes 90–100 min, €14 (€7 reduced, €35 family).
Back towards the centre, a short break for coffee.
Lunch, a main course at a restaurant €9.50.
The Klinger tajch, an 18th-century artificial lake, free entry. Swimming allowed for anyone who brought a costume.
Back into the centre and the bus towards Zvolen.
What to drop when time is short
- Only an afternoon on day one? The Calvary goes first — the Old and New Castles are closer to the centre and fit a shorter window.
- No booking for the mine? The Klinger tajch still works on its own as an afternoon walk, no notice needed.
